GaMPI NAMES GEORGIA WORLD CONGRESS CENTER VENUE OF THE YEAR

ATLANTA- (July 1, 2010) The Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) won Venue of the Year last night from Georgia’s chapter of Meeting Professionals International (GaMPI) during the Phoenix Awards held at the Loews Atlanta Hotel.

The Georgia World Congress Center hosted members of GaMPI during their Meeting Exploration Conference in February of this year. The 3.9 million square foot facility is the nation’s fourth largest convention center. The GWCC hosts over 50 major trade shows each year and over 300 additional meetings and events. More than 1.1 million visitors attend these events creating an economic impact of $1.9 billion and sustaining over 21,000 jobs.

“We are very proud to be honored as Venue of the Year by GAMPI,” said Frank Poe, executive director of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. “It’s a true testament when industry professionals recognize the hard work and customer service our GWCC team provides each and every day.”

The Phoenix Awards is GaMPI’s signature awards gala and dinner. The evening attracts over 500 attendees from all over the Southeast. Each year the organization awards the achievements of its members as well as their contributions to the GaMPI Chapter throughout the year. Other awards presented included Planner of the Year, Supplier of the Year, Committee of the Year and Sponsor of the Year.

The Georgia Chapter of MPI (GaMPI) is currently the 5th largest chapter with over 1,050 members. Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is devoted to the educational and professional needs of people in the meeting industry. With over 22,000 members globally, MPI serves both meeting planners and suppliers to the industry.
