Georgia World Congress Center and Levy Restaurants Welcome Russian Visitors
ATLANTA- (July 8, 2010) Levy Restaurants, the Georgia World Congress Center’s exclusive caterer, welcomed 25 Russian delegates for a culinary tour of the facility last month led by Chef Reece Jones, executive sous chef.
The group consisted primarily of small restaurant owners and managers that were touring the United States over a four week period. During the last stop on their journey, the group enjoyed seeing the large expanse of kitchens and concessions that Levy Restaurants operates in the GWCC, the nation’s fourth largest convention center. Although the majority of the group did not speak English, a culinary connection was made.
Many of the group members had their picture taken with Chef Reece and other members of the culinary team while on the tour. The group was very attentive stopping occasionally to ask questions about the staff, procedures and types of events that take place in the 3.9 million square foot convention center. The group was very impressed with the sustainability efforts of the convention center, especially the recycled cardboard trays used in the employee cafeteria. Additionally, Levy Restaurants began composting in back of the house kitchens in March 2009 and since then has composted 472,024 lbs or 236 tons of food waste.
The tour lasted a little over an hour and the group left with new knowledge and appreciation for how the convention center manages the 350 events and 2.1 million daily attendees that come through the facility every year.
